Dutch women’s golf team drop first-round match at Battle of Bos – Central College Athletics

PELLA— The Central College women’s golf team was defeated 4-1 in the opening round of its Battle of Bos match play event by the Grinnell College B team Saturday.
Grinnell’s A team beat Wartburg College 5-0 in the other first-round match, meaning Sunday’s championship will put the two Grinnell teams against each other. Central and Wartburg will play the third-place match.
The Pioneers were ranked No. 20 in the most recent Division III Mizuno WGCA poll.
“Grinnell has a deep team,” coach Tabitha Schumacher said. “I am proud of how our team battled in our matches.
The only victory for Central against Grinnell came at the top where senior Mackenzie Biggs (senior, Bloomington, Ill., Normal HS) won 4 and 3 against Amy Nguyen.
Biggs is one of four seniors for the Dutch playing in their final competition. Peyton Bytnar (Bettendorf), Rachel Sohn (Sutherland, South O’Brien HS) and Avery Woods (Long Grove, North Scott HS) will also be concluding their careers.
“Tomorrow will be bittersweet as we watch our four seniors play their last round,” Schumacher said.
