- Pathan compared Jaiswal’s off-side batting to that of Ganguly.
- Jaiswal became the third-youngest Indian to hit a Test double hundred.
- He has scored 321 runs in two matches in the ongoing series.
Former Indian cricketer Irfan Pathan has said that Yashasvi Jaiswal’s batting style is a lot like Sourav Ganguly, who was known as the king of the offside. The ongoing Test series between India and England is one worth remembering for the 22-year-old Jaiswal. His performances in the first two Tests in Hyderabad and Visakhapatnam garnered applause from all around the cricket fraternity.
Jaiswal’s batting resilience and composure has been the talk of the town for several cricket experts since he played a crucial role in India’s victory over England in the second Test. Several have already dubbed him as one of the leading figures amongst the younger generation.
Even after playing attacking cricket for his 80 in the first innings of the Hyderabad Test, Jaiswal struck a fine balance between aggression and caution during his maiden double century in Vishakhapatnam. Walking into the third Test in Rajkot, Jaiswal is one of the players that England will have special plans for.
Pathan highlighted the similarity between Jaiswal and Ganguly when it came to their off-side batting prowess. He backed Jaiswal to have a long stint with the senior Indian team, highlighting his struggling story.
“There’s one player who I’m excited for, he is Yashasvi Jaiswal. Now, it has to be seen how he performs in IPL. What an exciting player he is! He possesses the off-side game, just like Dada (Sourav Ganguly). Just like we used to see him and say, ‘He’s the king of the off-side’,” Irfan said while speaking on Star Sports.
“If he goes on to play for the next 10 years, we will speak about his game as much as we spoke about Dada’s. Jaiswal is that kind of a player. And now he has scored a double hundred in international cricket and he has a great background story,” Pathan added.
The third Test in Rajkot begins on February 15.
