Brendan Rodgers made a number of changes in his line-up and also changing the system to a 3-5-2, and it looked as a clever idea with a more compact midfield, and also giving two strikers a chance to play from start.
Ricardo Pereira was in the line-up and great to see him back in his best position, also a chance from start for Patson Daka who scored Leicester’s 1-1 equalizer in the 39th minute.
Leicester made a positive start, but a bit out of the blue Ben Chilwell converted with a volley, one that Danny Ward should have saved.
Though being one behind, Leicester managed to bring more chances to the table. A great shot from Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall hit the bar, and Leicester managed in this period to put a bit of pressure on Chelsea, that had a job to defend themselves.
The game had it’s VAR decisions and luckily for Leicester, this time, as Chelsea got two goals dissalowed. Joao Felix and Mykhailo Mydruk had to see their “goals” being ruled offside.
After one close attempt from Daniel Amartey, it was time to get the ball in the net. A great Patson Daka shot from distance found the net in the 39th minute and suddenly Leicester had turned the situation, 1-1 .
We all thought this would be the last goal of the first half, but into late overtime Kai Havertz got a perfect pass in the penalty box and his little flick over the heads and hands of Danny Ward, again shows how Leicester at times can take the foot of the pedal and just miss everything, 1-2 to Chelsea.
Going out 2nd half it was a lot of positives to take as the game continued. Leicester had attempts, but in the final they missed. A massive Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall chance was one, Kelechi Iheanacho another, but today they had no luck.
Kepa in the Chelsea goal had a busy evening, but we should neither forget a number of great saves from Danny Ward, and in the 78th minute of the game Kovacic put the game to bed with a fantastic finish and Leicester totally outplayed, 1-3.
Leicester also had to see a second yellow handed out to Wout Faes, who then had to leave the field in the 87th minute. The game just faded out after that an into 7 minutes of stoppage time.
After and during the game you could hear the chants of “Brendan Rodgers out”, but TCF believe this was a step in the right direction, with a number of chances created and an approach with an offensive mindset.
