Renderings Show Retail-Residential Mix At Golf-Wolf In Des Plaines – Journal & Topics Media Group

Must read

The comparison of the most recent plan to develop the vacant 6.5 acres at the northwest corner of Golf and Wolf roads with past plans is startling.

The original plan, which was later changed, was for Delaware-based Terra Carta developers to build several large apartment buildings on the property to accommodate as many as 450 units. Complaints and concerns from neighbors about the size of the proposed development and major changes to the Golf-Wolf intersection, prompted Terra Carta to downsize their plans. The only commercial in the plans was opening a restaurant in an outlot on the acreage.

The latest proposal, which will be the subject of a public meeting on Tuesday, Nov. 28 at 7 p.m. in city hall, calls for a mixed-use development that includes ground level businesses such as restaurants, a bakery, and several retail shops and offices.

The main purpose of the Nov. 28 special meeting of the Des Plaines Planning and Zoning Board is for developers to provide neighbors and other Des Plaines residents an overview of their preliminary concepts, answer questions and collect feedback.

Formerly located on the property was a large building that housed United Feather & Down and Bantam Books. The structure has since been demolished.
