Want your kid to play winter basketball? Registration now open for city’s youth league

The Alamogordo Parks and Recreation department and the Boys and Girls Club of Otero County announced registration for the annual Bitty Ball League is open now through Jan. 1.

The basketball league runs through the spring season at the Alamogordo Recreation Center and ends March 9.

“Our program introduces and emphasizes fundamentals, good sportsmanship, participation and teamwork. Any and all skill levels are welcome,” a news release from the Alamogordo Parks and Recreation Department stated.

How to register

Registration is being held at the Alamogordo Recreation Center at 1100 Oregon Avenue or online at

A fee of $55 per child is required though a T-shirt is included for each child.

Registration is open to children 7 through 12 years of age. Children will be selected at random for team placement in their respective age groups.

Parents will be able to choose preferred practice days of Monday and Wednesday or Tuesday and Thursday at the time of registration.

After registration is complete, a team meet and greet will be held at 6 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 4 at the Alamogordo Recreation Center.

Games held Fridays, Saturdays during season

Teams will be coached by volunteers. Officials ask that anyone interested in volunteering to coach apply at the Alamogordo Recreation Center or at the Boys and Girls Club.

Coaches and parents can expect games to beheld Friday nights and Saturday mornings. The end of season tournament is a three-day event held Friday, March 15 through Sunday, March 17.
