The City of Windsor is seeking feedback on plans for a Derwent Park revamp that includes the city’s first full-size cricket pitch.

With roughly 11 acres of recreational greenspace, the park on Forest Glade Drive is expected to have new lighting, public washrooms, added parking, and a multi-use pathway with solar lighting on top of the cricket pitch.

An online survey about the park upgrades asks residents how inclusive they feel Derwent Park is, what improvements to accessibility they would like to see, and whether the plans outlined in conceptual drawings would make the park more inclusive to people with disabilities.

It then asks residents to rank the order they would like to see various amenities installed at the park, what other amenities they would like to see once the cricket pitch is installed, and whether a washroom would be a welcome addition, among other things.

City council has committed $100,000 to undertake a complete design of Derwent Park that includes the full-size cricket field and improvements to nearby multi-use trails. The cricket pitch will have a new irrigation system, perimeter lighting, and players’ benches and a seating area.

The park is currently home to 650 metres of gravel and natural trails that run through a scenic woodlot along the eastern edge of city land. Combined, the woodlot, trail, and open space cover about 32 acres.
