Works report: In Italian leads 44 graded-stakes winners Saturday

In Italian, the breakout star of the American filly and mare turf division in 2022, continued working toward her 5-year-old debut Saturday morning. The Chad Brown trainee drilled five furlongs in 1:01.6 on the lawn at Payson Park, second fastest of 10 to cover that distance. She has been a regular on the Payson Park work tab since Jan. 28, and her last two works have come on grass.

Breeders’ Cup Turf Sprint winner Caravel also drilled on Saturday. She worked four furlongs in 49.6 seconds on the Tapeta at Turfway. Unraced since her long-shot victory at Keeneland, the 6-year-old mare trained by Brad Cox has published regular works since Feb. 18.
