Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta provides promising injury update on Jurriën Timber amid the Dutch defender’s long-term absence

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta is hopeful that Jurriën Timber will be back in action before the end of the season. The Gunners’ £38m signing has been absent since August after injuring his ACL in the opening Premier League game of the season. The Dutch defender has been unable to show Arsenal fans the qualities he put on display week in and week out at Ajax.

Speaking to the media on Friday, Arteta said the defender is “doing really well” and will start working with the rest of the squad soon. When asked if Timber would be back before the end of the season, the Spaniard said, “I really hope so, he’s been with some players on the pitch. We’ll have to see how he’s doing, confidence level, fitness level. Hopefully the answer will be yes.”

Jurriën Timber is capable of playing anywhere across the backline and Arteta has previously spoken about his versatility. The 22-year-old will be a huge asset to the Arsenal squad when fully fit and, with 13 Premier League games remaining, Gunners fans should get to see the Dutchman back in action before the season comes to a close.
