Carl “Dutch” Strand

Carl “Dutch” Strand passed peacefully on February 3rd, 2024 while residing at Kinzua Healthcare & Rehab Center of Warren.

He was born on February 3rd, 2024to the late Carl A. and Elsie W. Strand. Dutch was very active in local politics, serving Sugar Grove Borough as a council member for many years and then as Mayor for 18 years. Dutch retired as a machine operator from SKF bearings (formerly MRC) after working there for 43 years.

He was a devoted husband of 57 years to Linda (Andersen) Strand and father to three children, Jeanne (Ted) Toy, Patty Hockinson and Dan (Brad) Strand. He was “Grumpa” to his four grandchildren, Rachel and Tanner Toy, and Zachary and Zoe Hockinson. He is also survived by his sisters, Donna Strand and Linda Kelly.

He was preceded in death by his brothers Harry Shreve, Harold “Buck” Strand, and Norman Strand.

Dutch was known for being ornery, a hard worker and could often be found outside on one of his many riding mowers, his tractors, going to auctions, visiting with his friends at the AmVets, or tinkering in his garage while listening to the Swedish Hour and polka music.

Family and friends are welcome to call on Tuesday, February 6th at the Nelson Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 314 N Main Street, Youngsville, PA 16371, from 11am-1pm at which time a funeral service will be held there with Rev. Jeff Ewing, pastor of the Warren First Lutheran Church, officiating. A private committal will be held at Wesleyan Cemetery in Sugar Grove.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggest memorial donations be made to the Sugar Grove Fire Department, 27 Wilson Street, Sugar Grove, PA, 16350, the Sugar Grove Free Library, 22 Harmon Street, Sugar Grove, PA 16350 or to a charity of your choice.
