Netherlands have named their provisional squad for EURO 2024

The Netherlands have named their provisional squad for this summer’s EURO 2024.

We are just one month away from the first match of EURO 2024 and nations taking part are starting to name their respective squads.

Host nation Germany have already made headlines after Julian Nagelsmann left out some big names in his squad.

Meanwhile, France manager Didier Deschamps recalled one of the country’s finest players of this generation back into the fold for the tournament.

Now, the Netherlands, led by former Everton manager Ronald Koeman, have also named their squad.

Their provisional squad includes the likes of Jeremie Frimpong and Teun Koopmeiners, who have been linked with Manchester United and Liverpool respectively.

However, there was no place for Arsenal star Jurrien Timber, who suffered an anterior cruciate ligament injury at the start of the season and has not recovered in time.

Aside from Timber, the likes of Joshua Zirkzee, Jorrel Hato and Mats Wieffer were also overlooked by Koeman.

The Netherlands provisional squad in full:

Goalkeepers –

Bijlow, Flekken, Olij, Verbruggen

Defenders –

Ake, Blind, Van Dijk, Dumfries, Frimpong, Geertruida, De Ligt, Maatsen, Van de Ven, De Vrij

Midfielders –

Gravenberch, De Jong, Koopmeiners, Reijnders, De Roon, Schouten, Simons, Timber, Veerman, Wijnaldum

Attackers –

Bergwijn, Brobbey, Depay, Gakpo, Malen, Weghorst

The Netherlands have been drawn in Group D for Euro 2024, alongside Poland, Austria and France.

Koeman’s side will kick off their tournament against Poland on June 16 at the Volksparkstadion in Hamburg.

Thre years ago, Oranje suffered a shock 2-0 defeat against the Czech Republic at the round of 16 stage.

In the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, the Netherlands were led by Louis van Gaal and eventually lost to Argentina on penalties in the quarter final. Captain Virgil van Dijk missed a crucial penalty during the shootout, with Lionel Messi’s men winning by 4-3.
