Poland vs Netherlands Euro 2024 Prediction: Can Netherlands live up to their billing?

Poland vs Netherlands Latest Prediction

Group D certainly looks a tough one and both Poland and Netherlands will be hoping to get their campaign off to a winning start.

France and Austria are the other sides that have been drawn into Group D, one of the most open groups at the European Championships this summer. Netherlands are one of the favourites, alongside France, to advance from Group D and a win here could prove to be vital for Ronald Koeman’s side with them facing the French in the second round of matches.

Poland aren’t a bad side by any means though and the likes of Robert Lewandowski will be a big threat to the Dutch defence. We think Oranje will have enough to secure the win though and give themselves a big boost in making the knockout stages.

Poland and Netherlands open their Euro 2024 accounts on June 16 in Hamburg with both searching for three points to kickstart their campaign. `

Poland had a disappointing qualifying campaign, finishing third in Group E behind Albania and Czech Republic. They needed to qualify for the tournament through the playoff, beating Estonia in the semi-finals before needing penalties to overcome Wales. It’s not been a strong period for Poland and Euro 2024 could be a tough tournament for Michał Probierz and his side.

Netherlands finished second in Group B, losing twice to France who they have been drawn with in the tournament proper. Their qualification to Euro 2024 was never really in doubt though, with the Dutch side winning their other six group games to seal their route to Germany.

Poland Latest Team News

Poland don’t have many household names in their squad but there are some that will be familiar to fans of English football. Jakub Kiwior and Matty Cash could both feature in the squad and currently ply their trade in the Premier League. Jan Bednarek and Jakub Moder will also be names known to those on the south coast, with Southampton and Brighton boasting those players in their squads respectively.

The biggest name is undoubtedly Robert Lewandowski, the Barcelona frontman who has been the Polish talisman since his debut in 2008. With 82 goals in 148 appearances for his nation, Lewandowski has broken numerous records for Poland and he might have to excel himself to see his side advance at Euro 2024.

Poland’s success at Euro 2024 could well come down to how well they provide Lewandowski with service. Their match with Austria will be key but any points they can take off of Netherlands, and France, will help their cause immensely.

Netherlands Latest Team News

Netherlands have one of the stand out squads at Euro 2024 but questions still remain over whether they have the mindset to win a major competition.

With Ronald Koeman at the helm they certainly have a leader that has won all their is in the game. He’ll be hoping to translate that experience to the pitch to bring glory back to Dutch football. There are plenty of leaders on the pitch, with Virgil van Dijk, Nathan Ake and Frenkie de Jong all having the ability to save games for their side. There are concerns that they lack the firepower at the other end of the pitch however. Memphis Depay and Cody Gakpo are good options to have but neither has ever had the lethal consistency of a top level striker.

With France up next for Netherlands, a win in this game could be vital and consecutive defeats would leave them fighting for their lives to qualify for the round of 16.

Poland vs Netherlands Head to Head

The last six games between these nations have been heavily on the side of Netherlands, with five wins and a draw keeping Poland from picking up a victory since they met in 1979. Poland will need to buck the historical trend to come out on top here.
