Sheffield United’s sister club almost ready to celebrate promotion under Dirk Kuyt

Despite being up for sale and having lost their head coach midway through the season, Beerschot look set for a return to the Belgian Pro League. The side from Antwerp, currently under the management of former Liverpool legend Dirk Kuyt, are five points clear at the top of the Challenger Pro League with just three games of the regular season to go. Kuyt’s men have put together a five game unbeaten run, with three wins in their last three putting them in pole position while others around them have faltered.

The side were relegated from the Pro League back in 2021/2022, finishing bottom with just 16 points from 34 matches. In their first season back in the second tier they finished third but were a long way off the leading sides in RWDM and SK Beveren. Yet a 1-0 win over Zulte Waregem on the 15th of March and another 1-0 victory over Jong Genk this past weekend means they are all but there.

Next up is relegation threatened Oostende on the 7th of April, with a win all but guaranteeing their return to the top flight. This could certainly help attract potential suitors to buy the club from Abdullah Bin Mosaad Al Saud, who is also the owner of Sheffield United. Prince Abdullah has been looking to sell the club this season, but with promotion around the corner he should probably wait for the chance of even greater interest.
