Club Brugge v Anderlecht Preview | Belgian Classico headlines Sunday’s Pro League fixtures

Club Brugge take on Anderlecht in the Belgian classico on Sunday afternoon. The home side are in third place, nine points behind their rivals Anderlecht who themselves are chasing leaders Union St Gilloise. A win for Anderlecht could see them push Club Brugge out of the title race and even see the hosts struggling to make the top six.

Since the turn of the year Club Brugge have only lost once, away to Antwerp. In their last three games they have beaten league leaders Union in the cup, Eupen at home 4-0 and then drawn 1-1 with city rivals Cercle Brugge. Ronny Deila’s side are still fighting on three different fronts. After this game they face Union away in the second leg of the cup, with Genk then next before the first leg of their Europa Conference League clash with Molde.

Club fans will be hoping that future Brentford striker Thiago can maintain his strong form this season. The Brazilian forward has scored 16 Pro League goals this season. Hans Vanaken, as per usual, is joint leader in terms of assists with six alongside young defender Maxim De Cuyper.

Anderlecht’s only chance of a trophy this season is the Pro League. They have also been on a good run of form recently, with three wins in a row after their 4-1 victory over Sint-Truiden. Anders Dreyer has been the star for them this season with 14 goals, while summer signing Kasper Dolberg has chipped in with 12. Young central midfielder Theo Leoni leads the side with seven assists. Anderlecht are chasing their first title since the 2016/2017 which was the 34th in their history.
